The Green Page
The Lewis Group are now committed to the concept of sustainable design and CO2 reduction.
Sustainable design is a broad concept which aims to reduce the adverse effects the human race has on the environment. Around 45% of carbon emissions/greenhouse gases come from architecture alone, hence the reason behind building sustainable homes.
The UK government has set a target to reduce the nations CO2 emissions by 20% by 2010.
Some examples of what would make a house sustainable are;
Passive solar design
Good use of natural light
Natural ventilation
Night cooling
Grey water recycling
Integration of landscaping
Use of local materials to reduce emissions from transportation
Green roofs
Use of sustainable wood/timber
